Many of you know that I've been having fun writing songs in all genres for sync licensing in ads/tv/film, and this placement is my FIRST significant one! Hoping to add more in the coming year...

I'm going all-in on the writing, producing, and performing in 2022! (Starting with a planned FULL ALBUM RELEASE early in the year!)

During week 2, look for a livestream weekly schedule & catch some short sets on my Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & YouTube accounts!

I've gotten worse at the mile-per-day thing! Week 2 will see an attempt to up the mileage JUST ENOUGH to make up for days missed (by end July, I'm determined to average 1 mile per day, even if the active times are inconsistent ;)

Where I'm still PERFECT is on the SONGWRITING!! *dances around in victory* What really helped keep this moving along during week 2 is the 5-in-5 Songwriting Challenge group by Sarah Spencer on Facebook! If you're a songwriter (pro, hobbyist, or "thought-about-it-once-what-do-i-do-now"), I can't recommend a group like this enough! Check out the group and see when the next challenge happens. You won't believe the songs that can be spun into existence in a day when you make it fun & pressure-free (as in: "it's okay to suck - not every tune needs to be perfect" ;) )

(If only the exercise was that consistent - lol!)

Today's song challenge was to write the song to a drum loop, so thanks to Garage Band, and here we go:

I admit that I skipped the mile on foot yesterday, but did 1.7 the day prior and 1.99 today to makeup for it :)

If you subscribe to my mailing list, you got a vote on which design was best! (SPOILER ALERT: It was the grey "Gonna Be So Bright" one)

The grey shirt will be available in sizes S-XL at the Glass Half Full show on Feb 28 at Mr. Small's Funhouse! Don't worry, though - BOTH designs will be available for online ordering through Printful in the near future (March, in fact).

So, if you're at the show, come see me at the merch table for a closer look at the "Shine" design. If not (or if you really love the black "Let it Rain" shirt), you'll get to buy the shirt you love best online in March :)

So excited!

Despite not being one of the 3 chosen to move on (out of 20 artists performing), I heard from SO MANY PEOPLE afterward about how my song Let it Rain affected them deeply, I made new friends and saw some long lost ones, too! Such a wonderful experience - thanks to the WYEP staff for putting this on every year - way cool!

This week, I'm off to Austin, Texas (yes... I'm going to Austin... in August... it's gonna be sultry) for the CDBaby DIY Musician Conference! I'm psyched to get back to this event, and am thrilled that I'm going to get to play a set at a local showcase while I'm in town! (Thanks to friend & amazing musician Jan Seides for setting up the showcase and for inviting me to play!) Follow me on socials to get some daily play by play from the conference!

See you on the flip side - and keep an ear open for new things that are unfolding... Announcements upcoming!
JuliAnne Wrighttag:julisongs.com,2005:Post/58253232019-07-15T15:36:18-04:002019-07-16T22:42:45-04:00What a Long (not that strange) Trip!
So, right after the July 4 holiday, I flew off to San Diego with the hubs (after dropping the kids off with gramma) for a week-long business trip/vaca!

Day 1 included a fun co-write with some friends in Southern California. It's a catchy tune we wrote with ads in mind, and it's in production now. Hoping that this may be the first sync placement I'm involved with! My co-writers both have more experience than me, so I was glad to get to work with, and learn from them!

Over the rest of the week, I traipsed around the city while hubs attended conference sessions (and still only saw a fraction of it). Highlights included: seeing seals & pups at La Jolla Cove; the San Diego Maritime Museum & the USS Midway Museum; Hiking a slot canyon in Anza Borrego Desert State Park (at 6am... on a day where temps of 114 were predicted... Was only in the low 80's when we hiked though); A (more commercial/touristy than we thought) walking tour over the Mexican border into Tijuana; A brief visit with family once back at Gramma's house. Then, after driving the 4 hours from Gramma's back to our house, I drove my daughter another hour or so to girl scout camp...

After such an eventful & exhausting week, I slept in, today, and am psyched to get back into playing songs at tonight's AcoustiCafe! Hoping to finally get to Hambone's Tuesday night open stage soon, as well.

UP NEXT: recording the new co-write song from Cali; recording and prepping new songs for an EP release (hopefully this year)

PERFORMANCES:

Monday night's debut hosting AcoustiCafe was:

FUN! (like getting to know more performing musicians/ being closer to the process), and sometimes PETRIFYING (like when I told people to order from the bartender after the bar was closed... oops!) But, the fun part was 99% of it!

Thanks to AcoustiCafe for inviting me to host, thanks to all the supremely talented musicians who performed (especially the house band!), and special thanks to everyone who offered kind words, encouragement & support as I figured things out :) After such a great time on Monday, NOW I'm amped up about WHAT'S NEXT!

Wrights UMC in Venetia has invited me (for the 4th year!) to play on their 'Brown Bag Lunch Concert Series!'

I'll play from 12-1pm on NEXT WEDNESDAY (June 19) while the church serves a lunch ($5 suggested donation) to those attending. (You may also bring your own 'brown bag lunch' and just check out the music, if you like).

Planning to attend?
First are performances & live stuff:

On June 10, I'm hosting the open stage at AcoustiCafe! Come out & say hi, play a couple songs, and hang with us! I'll be your host, and will play a song or two to start the night :)

On June 19, I'm playing the brown-bag lunch at Wright's UMC in Venitia! They provide a yummy lunch, and I provide the tunes! I play from 12-1pm

Next some new songs are in the works:

With the help of some local musicians and a local studio, I'm starting work on a new EP soon! Getting organized right now, but hope to have a final product with 4-6 new songs by year's end!

BRAND NEW Facebook group for members of my email community!

I'm so excited to offer this new opportunity for supporters to connect with me on Facebook! This group is exclusive to my community of email subscribers, so if you aren't in that club yet, go here to get in on this opportunity (plus so many more benefits, like first-to-know news stories about my music career, behind the scenes bonuses, chances to offer input - like which songs should go on my next EP, etc)!

Speaking of email, I'm in the process of creating new content for that community. If you're subscribed already, you'll see it soon (don't be surprised, but the first email will say 'welcome to the list' or something similar - even if you've been here awhile, you'll still get all the new stuff! (and this new 'welcome' email will contain freebies as well as a link to the new Facebook group).

You can usually catch me live on Monday nights at AcoustiCafe (meets in the Funhouse at Mr Smalls in Millvale, PA). And I'll also be checking out the Wednesday open stage at Full Pint Wildside in Lawrenceville this week (May 1)

Next official gig is Mother's Day, May 12 for Hambone's (Lawrenceville) Acoustic Brunch! Join me and a host of mom/musicians for a special edition of this popular event!

Planned for summer: gigs in Bridgeville, Washington & other spots - more to come, soon!
JuliAnne Wrighttag:julisongs.com,2005:Post/56853302019-03-19T09:50:48-04:002019-03-19T09:50:48-04:00YIKES! It's been awhile!
Sorry to leave you hanging! Life's been keeping me distracted - but in a good way!

Just got back from 3rd trip to LA for a sync licensing event (sync licensing is where a song is used in film/TV/ads). I got useful feedback on a song I'd written with TV/films in mind, and heard some MINDBLOWING songs from friends of mine, too! Although it was cooler than average, and rainy for a bit, I'll never complain about a trip to LA - especially in the winter when it's 18 in Pittsburgh ;)

Next adventure: a trip to polish up on my audio engineering skills at The Recording Workshop in Ohio! I attended this school in 2010, and am going back to take their advanced course (to hopefully make my self-recorded tracks sound closer to 'pro')

Next gig: a May set at the Acoustic Brunch @ Hambones in Lawrenceville. There's a Mother's Day show, and I'm one of the musician/moms on the ticket! Happening on May 12 from 10:30am-2pm - mark your calendar!
JuliAnne Wrighttag:julisongs.com,2005:Post/56301072019-02-06T09:17:37-05:002019-02-06T09:17:37-05:00THIS JUST IN! (Feb 11 Feature @ AcoustiCafe!)
I'm SO PSYCHED to announce that I'll be the featured artist at AcoustiCafe on Feb 11!

It's always a great time at this open mic, and the quality of acts is consistently high. They start at 7pm, at the Funhouse @ Mr Small's in Millvale, PA. I'll play a short set at about 9pm, just after the host (DRU - who is amazing!) plays a few... There's a bar right in the room, and in the hall outside is a grill for snacks/dinner!

Another awesome thing about AcoustiCafe is that they LIVESTREAM on Facebook during the featured set (usually streaming from 9-10pm, roughly). SO if you can't make it out to the venue, you can still catch my set on Facebook! (look for AcoustiCafe's page to find the stream).

Thanks to Eric George, for inviting me to play!

Enjoy the rest of the week (warmer weather where I am, but with rain - bleh...) - and celebrate music with me this weekend at:

Come up for music and enjoy some great food, too! This Acoustic Brunch is a fundraiser for a local charity - more info to come. Show runs from 10:30-2!

If you can't make the brunch, you can usually see me at the Acousticafe open mic, Monday nights at the Funhouse (upstairs at Mr Smalls) in Millvale. Music starts at 7 or so, and goes til late. I'm premiering a new song there tonight! The musicians at this event are top-notch, so even if you don't catch my set, you can't go wrong ;)

Still writing & producing a couple songs a month in my basement... New single coming in February!

I've also started training to run a half marathon... Because it was there... The goal is to run a non-official half on the day of the Pittsburgh Marathon (or if it looks like I'm actually going to be in shape to do it, I might try a late entry to the official half). We'll see how this turns out - have never run more than a 10K before & that was a long time ago, so...
JuliAnne Wrighttag:julisongs.com,2005:Post/55929452019-01-12T13:44:19-05:002019-01-14T11:13:56-05:00First Blog Post Ever!
